As you are planning and budgeting for you trip one important piece to account for is travel insurance. Most people do not want or like this expense but I am going to discuss 3 reasons why it is a must have:
#1.) Trip cancellation. Trips are expensive and if you cannot be refunded in the event of a cancellation can cause undue hardship. You may think you will never cancel a trip that you have so elegantly planned, but it isn't always up to you. Sometimes family emergencies get in the and other times a health scare can eliminate any chances for travel into a certain region (i.e. Coronavirus). In these events you may need your tied up money to plan an alternate trip.
#2.) Baggage. How do airlines lose luggage? I do not know, but I do know that it happens. Insurance can pay for replacement items and clothing at your destination. So dress comfortable on plane and leave your best attire in your luggage knowing that you are covered.
#3.) Medical Insurance: You many think you are already have this insurance, but how does it work when you are studying abroad and become ill or injured? Simple answer; not well. A medical travel policy provides additional coverage if you are traveling internationally and can help pay deductibles or “out-of-network” provider charges that your current health insurance does not pay. Generally, this type of medical insurance picks up and pays your health care expenses that your primary healthcare policy does not cover.
So as you are planning your adventure make sure that you budgeted, and insured.
